Let's Dance
Check out your
local library for recording for traditional Mexican music.
Then gather a few sombreros. (Check out a local party
store) The children
will enjoy dancing and shaking their
new Fiesta Shakers to the music.
To begin the activity, place the sombreros on the floor.
Then have small groups of children stand around each
sombrero.
Begin playing the music and have children move
to the beat around the sombrero.
They should also have
their new shakers. You can also direct them to shake them
to the beat of the music.
When children are familiar with
the music, give directions such as "Hop around the
sombrero",
"March away for the sombrero", or : Raise hands
up and down" you can add any thing to this little dance.
This activity should bring a lot of giggles and it will be
great for following directions. Learn the Mexican Hat
Dance!
Jumping
Beans
Make balls
bounce like jumping beans on a parachute or sheet.
Tell the children that jumping beans are found in Mexico.
Explain that insects live inside the beans.
When the
insects move, the beans seem to jump. Say, "Let's
make balls bounce like jumping beans
on a parachute."
Invite the children to lift and lower the parachute to
make the balls jump up and down.
