              E is for Elf
Give each child a large green capital 'E'.  This
can be turned into an elf by adding an oval face at
the top of the E, mittens on the end of the top line and top of the line
going down; a belt buckle to
the middle line; and pointy toed boots to the end of the bottom line and
end of the line going down.
Talk about the letter E and the sounds it makes.

When you pretend to be an elf for this whole group activity, your
              little ones will
giggle with glee. To begin, explain that you are an elf and you
              have made some
toys. (To give yourself and elfish appearance, you may wish to don
              a construction
paper headband embellished with elf ears.) Prompt the children to
              recite the chant
below. Then hold up a toy and say its name, replacing the
              beginning sound in the
word. For example, you might hold up a puzzle and say, "I made a
              WUZZLE!" No doubt
children will immediately correct your mistake. Then repeat the
              process with other toys.

Little elf, little elf, what kind of toy
Did you make for a girl or a boy?
