Animal Sounds
Play a nature tape and ask the kids to identify the animal sounds.
Pack the
Backpack
Bring into the classroom a large backpack. Also have many
camping items available,
such as sweatshirts, flashlights, lanterns, foods, raincoats, etc.
The teacher gives the children
instructions that they are going to pretend to go on a hike. What is
the one thing they will need
to bring along? Why? Continue until all the children have had
a chance to contribute.
Missing
Item
Set several
camping items on the table. Children close their eyes and along
comes a
"bear" and snatches an item. Children open their eyes and name the item
that's missing.
Canoeing
Line up 4 chairs and
show children how to paddle. Listen to sounds of
rushing water while canoeing. Have children have a race against each
other.
Camper Says
Played similar to "Simon
Says" except the teacher says "Camper Says."
With younger children, do not make children sit out... just say "camper
didn't say."
Nut Hunt
Hide nuts
inside or outside, like you would for an Easter Egg Hunt.
Younger children sort theirs by type ... walnut, peanut, pecan, etc.
Sleeping Bag Races
Be creative, how many
kids can fit in a sleeping bag, relay
race in a sleeping bag, obstacle course in a sleeping bag .
Shape Guessing Game
I have all the kids sit
in the tent with the lights out. I stand outside with die cuts and a
flash light and
hold up a die cut. The kids inside the tent guess what the object is. I
use a leaf, sailboat, sun, etc.
