Butterfly Literature Ideas
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Use this activity to follow up
Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."
When the children are
familiar with this classic tale, create a class caterpillar
to help the
children retell the story. To begin, cover a clean, empty Pringles
container with green Con-Tact paper; then add construction paper legs.
Cover the lid with red Con-Tact paper or construction paper; then add
construction paper eyes and antennae so the lid resembles the
caterpillar's
face. Cut a hole in the lid to create the
caterpillar's mouth. Next, cut
out construction paper food shapes
similar to those in the story. If desired,
laminate the cutouts for
durability. Invite each child to retell the story
and feed the
caterpillar the construction paper foods.
