Squiggly Little Worm
A squiggly little worm into my apple bit.
He chomped and chomped until the core he hit.
I asked him why he did it,
And thought it sounds absurd,
He said, "I love apples."
Now that is what I heard.
10 Red Apples Growing On A Tree

Materials Needed:
10 apple cut outs (they could be felt, poster board, construction
paper attached to craft sticks, etc.)
Green pipe cleaner, bent like a "worm"
Procedure:
Number the apples 1-10.
Tape the "worm" to the back of one of the apples, so it is hidden.
Recite the verse. Invite the children to guess which apple has the worm by naming its
number.
This could be done several ways---with a
flannel board or magnet board.
(Attach magnets to the back of poster board apple cut-outs.), or as
stick "puppets".

Peel an apple,
cut it up,
cook it in a pot.
When you taste it
you will find
it's applesauce you've got.

One day I was sitting on the fencepost, chewing my bubble gum

bubble gum noises 4 times: smack smack smack smack)
Playin' with my yo-yo: doo-wop doo wop doo wop.
When along came Herman the Worm.
And he was *this* big (hold hands about a foot apart).
And I said "Herman? What happened?"
And he said "I ate a ______" fill in with something appropriate.
Start over from the beginning, but when you get to "he was *this*
big, hold
your hands further apart and then fill in the I ate a with
something bigger.
Repeat one more time, making Herman bigger than ever
(have him eat
something enormous, like a house, a plane, etc.)
Repeat the first part one last time but when you get to "he was
*this* big" hold your fingers close
together to show how tiny he
is. And when you say "herman, what happened?" Answer "I burped."
5 Green Apples
(A good song to also use with flannel board, or story glove. Put
small square of coarse
side of velcro on tip of each finger of white gardening glove. Cut 5 green
apples
from sheets of craft foam or felt. Adhere soft side of velcro to back of
each apple.)
