Bird Dramatic Play Ideas
Leaving the Nest
Children play in a plastic wading pool “nest”
filled with shredded paper. Children take turns waving
“bye” to mommy bird and flying out of the nest and coming back. Use the
words, “in” and “out.”
Bird Nest
Place several bales of hay in the corner of a play yard, confining
the materials
to one area. Let the children rearrange the straw to simulate a bird
nest.
Birdhouse
Construct a large birdhouse out of a cardboard box. Place in
the dramatic play area, allowing the children to
imitate birds. Bird accessories such as teacher-made beaks and wings
may be supplied to stimulate interest.
