A Cool Pool
Swim into summer reading with a
child's wading pool placed in your reading area. Since you don't
want your books or young readers getting wet in this center, invite your
children to make some imaginary
water by sitting inside the pool and cutting blue crepe paper streamers
and construction paper scraps
into small pieces. After the cutting practice, remove the scissors and
add some small inflatable swim
rings and perhaps a fish-shaped pillow or two. Now your pool is all set
for diving into a good book.
Lazy Summer Days
During the summer months we often go outdoors beneath a big
shade tree and read books.
We also lay blankets on the ground and look up at the sky (not directly
into the sun).
This is especially fun on days when the clouds are moving quickly across
the sky.
Summer Fun Book
For each of your children, select a
greeting card and staple several
pieces of plain paper inside it to make a blank book. Let the
children
decorate the pages of their books with "summer" pictures and
designs.
