Scarecrow Game Ideas
Five Plump Scarecrows
Invite 5 children to
stand in front of the class and pretend to be scarecrows.
Then have 5 additional students sit at the feet of each scarecrow
and pretend
to be crows. Recite the poem below and encourage your
scarecrows and crows to move as directed in the poem.
Five plump
scarecrows stuffed with lots of hay
Standing in the cornfield ready for the day.
(Stand with arms stretched out at sides.)
When the gentle wind blows,
The five begin to sway,
(Gently sway from side to side)
Moving just enough to scare the crows away.
(Crows fly away, cawing)
On the Lookout for Crows
Gather some old flannel shirts. Cut out a supply of crows
from black construction paper.
Using white chalk, write a different letter, number, or shape (or
anything you wish to reinforce)
onto the crow cutout. Hang the crows around the room at children's
eye level.
Have each child pretend to be a scarecrow by wearing one of the old
flannel shirts.
Name a symbol or show a card with the symbol; then direct one of the
little scarecrows to find that crow and bring it to you.
