Pirate Fine Motor Ideas
Captain Hook Hands
(Photo submitted by Shell)
Poke a small hole into a plastic silo or styro foam cup. Add
a candy cane or a pipe cleaner
(bent in the shape of a candy cane) into the hole... with hook sticking
out. Encourage the
children to pick up pretzels using their hook hands. How many
can they pick up
using the hooks? Afterwards, let them eat their pretzels as
a snack.
Pirate's Cove
Section off an area with a black curtain or trash bag that is ripped into strips for kids to
go through
. Inside the cove have a search for buried treasure: Get a trunk if possible, or
use a box
painted with skull and crossbones. Add in a lot of play sand, and "bury"
little dime-store
treasures for kids to find. Make up treasure bags with crossbones on them for
the kids
to put the "treasures" in. Have another box of sand with "sea shore"
finds - gather shells and seaweeds to put in the box of sand.
Buried Treasure
In
your sensory table of sand, rice etc. bury gold foiled chocolate coins and
pretend
gems (they carry crafting gems at alot of craft stores) for your pirates to dig
up.
Pirate Paper Dolls
Give the kids a magazine, ask them to find clothes that would go on a Pirate or
a Princess.
Then have them draw a Pirate and Princess, take the clothes and dress them up
like paper dolls.
Treasure Box Lock
Have a treasure box that has a lock in it. Hide lots of keys
and let the children see who find the key to open the treasure.
