Pumpkins

Pumpkins by the barn.
Pumpkins by the house.
Pumpkins by the wagon.
Pumpkins by the mouse.

Pumpkins by the fence.
Pumpkins by the cat.
Pumpkins by the scarecrow.
Pumpkins by the hat.

Pumpkins by the table.
Pumpkins by the chair.
Pumpkins by the door.
Pumpkins everywhere!

Trick or Treat

Witches, ghosts, and goblins.
Stealing down the street,
Knock on every door way,
Trick or treat!

When your door is opened,
This is what you meet,
Scary creatures shouting,
Trick or treat!

Pumpkin I

Pumpkin pumpkin
Big and round,
I'm glad you grow
Upon the ground.
I'm glad you don't
Grow in a tree
For then you might
Fall down on me.

Pumpkin II

We bought a fat orange pumpkin
The plumpest sort they sell.
We neatly scooped the inside out
And only left the shell.
We carved a funny funny-face
Of silly shape and size,
A pointy nose, a jagged mouth
And two enormous eyes.
We set it in a window
And we put a candle in,
Then lit it up for all to see
Our jack-o'lantern grin.

5 Little Pumpkins

5 Little Pumpkins
Sitting on a gate.
The first one said,
"Oh, my it's getting late!"
The second one said,
"There are witches in the air!"
The third one said,
"Well, I don't care!"
The fourth one said,
"Let's run and run and run!"
The fifth one said,
"I'm ready for some fun!"
Ooooo went the wind
And out went the lights
And the five little pumpkins
Rolled out of sight.

In My Garden

(Sung to the tune of:
"The Muffin Man")

Do you know how pumpkins grow,
Pumpkins grow, pumpkins grow,
Do you know how pumpkins grow?
In my garden?

First I plant some pumpkin seeds,
some pumpkin seeds,
some pumpkins seeds,
First I plant some pumpkin seeds
In my garden.

Then the vines and leaves will grow,
leaves will grow, leaves will grow,
Then the vines and leaves will grow,
In my garden.

Then the buds will turn to blossoms,
turn to blossoms, turn to blossoms,
Then the buds will turn to blossoms,
In my garden.

Then green pumpkins will grow,
will grow, will grow,
Then green pumpkins will grow,
In my garden.

At last the pumpkins turn to orange,
turn to orange, turn to orange,
At last the pumpkins turn to orange,
In my garden.

Now I'll have some jack-o-lanterns,
jack-o-lanterns, jack-o-lanterns,
Now I'll have some jack-o-lanterns,
In my garden.

Black Cat!

Black cat, black cat
Looking for a witch.
All around the
Night is dark as pitch.
You can see because
Your eyes are greee.
Black cat, Black cat
This is Hallowe'en!

Cat

Cat,cat,
Your eyes are bright and green,
Where have you been
What have you done
So skittery-scary this Hallowe'en?

And where did you get
that pointed hat?
Tell me that,
Cat!

Trick or Treat Chant

Knock, knock,
Trick or treat,
Knock, then knock some more.
Knock, knock,
Trick or treat,
Let's see who's at the door.

Halloween Is Here

(Sung to the tune of:
"The Farmer In The Dell")

Oh, Halloween is here,
Oh, Halloween is here.
Hi Ho the derry-oh
Oh, Halloween is here.

Trick or Treat

Witches, ghosts, and goblins.
Stealing down the street,
Knock on every door way,
Trick or treat!

When your door is opened,
This is what you meet,
Scary creatures shouting,
Trick or treat!

Walk in the Dark

(Sung to the tune of:
"Pop Goes the Weasel")

Sometimes I like to walk in the dark
I like to shout and scream.
I walk up behind somebody I know
BOO!
 its Halloween.

Oh, My Darling
Frankenstein

(Sung to the tune of: "Clementine")

Chorus:
Oh, my darling, oh, my darling,
Oh, my darling Frankenstein.
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Frankenstein!

I was working with my test tubes
In my laboratory fine.
Then one day I broke my glasses
And I made poor Frankenstein.

He was charming, he was handsome,
And I nailed his head on tight.
Oh, his teeth were sharp and pearly
And his eyes came out at night.

Oh, his nose, I made it quickly
From a rotten apple core,
And his tongue was nice and purple
And it hung down to the floor.

Chorus

Then the Wolfman came to work,
"Sir," I said, "What's in your mouth?"
He said "Fangs." I said
"You're welcome."
And he still is running south.

Frankenstein helped in the kitchen
He was baking up a cake,
When he fell in the Mixmaster
And got whipped up by mistake.

Cooking nicely in the oven,
Oh, the cake, it came out fine.
I told my friends
that they were raisins,
But those lumps were Frankenstein!

Chorus

Skeleton Parade

The skeletons are out tonight,
They march about the street,
With bony bodies, bony heads,
And bony hands and feet.

Bony bony bony bones
with nothing in between,
Up and down and all around
They march on Halloween.

Witches

The moon was lost behind a cloud,
When something weird went by,
I tried to see it going,
It flew so fast and high,
I don't believe in witches,
But that is what I saw,
Sailing high up in the sky
On a broom stick made of straw.

The stars were gone,
The night was dark,
When something strange took place,
I could not quite believe it,
There was a gruesome face.

I don't believe in zombies,
But that is what I saw,
A skeleton with corpselike face,
I viewed it with awe.

Scarecrows

(Sung to the tune of:
"Sing a Song of Sixpence")

We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words;
But when Hallowe'en comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.
Boo!

Halloween Songs, Poems, & Fingerplays

Five Little Pumpkins

Let children draw and cut out their Jack-o-Lanterns from orange construction paper.
Using a black color or pencil, help them draw on faces. Using wooden dowels, tape the
dowels to the backs of the pumpkins and recite the following poem.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, “Oh my, it’s getting late.”
The second one said, “There are witches in the air.”
The third one said, But we don’t care.
The fourth one said, “Let’s run. Let’s run,”
The fifth one said, “It’s Halloween fun.”
WOOOOOOO, went the wind,
And out went the lights.
And the five little pumpkins rolled our of sight.

One Little, Two Little Three Little Pumpkins

(Sung to the tune of "One little, Two Little, Three Little Indians")

One little, two little, three little pumpkins,
Four little, five little, Six little pumpkins,
Seven little, Eight little, nine little pumpkins
Ready for Halloween night!

Halloween Parade

Five white ghosts and seven goblins,
Go parading down the street,
Boys and girls with funny faces,
Asking for a treat.

If a goblin rings my doorbell,
I will say "I'm not afraid!"
I will light my jack-o-lantern,
For the Halloween parade.

I will give these scary people,
Apples, candy, cakes to eat;
Then I'll wave goodbye and watch them
As they march off down the street.

The Great Pumpkin

(Sung to the tune of:  "Did You Ever See a Lassie")

I am the Great Pumpkin,
Great Pumpkin, Great Pumpkin.
I am the Great Pumpkin.
Come dance with me.
For your friends are my friends
and my friends are your friends.
I am the Great Pumpkin.
Come dance with me.

I Look In The Mirror

I look in the mirror
And what do I see?
I see a princess
Looking at me.

Repeat the rhyme with each of
your children, substituting the name of
his or her costume for princess.

Hiding Jack-O-Lantern

(Sung to the tune of:  "Itsy Bitsy Spider")

Funny Jack-O-Latern,
Where are you hiding?
Are you over here?
Or are you under there?
I will keep on looking,
until I find you.
Funny jack-o-latern,
There you are!

Jack -O'Lantern I

The jack -o'lantern chuckled
Then winked his funny eye,
"I would rather be a pumpkin-face
Than be inside a pie!"
Jolly wolly pumpkin face
You're happy tell us why.
I'd rather be a pumpkin face
And not a pumpkin pie!

Jack-O-Latern II

(Sung to the tune of: " Oscar Meyer Wiener Song")

Oh I wish I was an Orange
Jack-O-Latern
That is what I really want to be
For if I was an orange Jack-O-Latern
Everyone would laugh and smile at me.

Did You Ever See a Pumpkin

(Sung to tune of: "Did You Ever See a Lassie")

Did You ever seen a pumpkin, a pumpkin, a pumpkin
Did you ever see a pumpkin with no face at all.
With no eyes and no nose and no mouth and no teeth
Did you ever see a pumpkin with no face at all.
So I made a Jack-O-Latern,
a Jack-O-Latern, a Jack-O-Latern,
So I made a Jack-O-Latern with a big funny face
With big eyes, and a big nose and big mouth and big teeth
So I made a Jack-O-Latern with a big funny face.

Halloween Surprise

(Sung to the tune of: Sing A Song Of Sixpence")

First you take a pumpkin  (arms for large pumpkin before tummy)
Big and round and fat
Then you cut the top off  (pretend to slice)
That will make the hat  (hand on head)
Then you hollow out the
Nose and mouth and eyes   (point to nose, mouth, and eyes)
Show it to the children for a  (resume first position)
Halloween Surprise!

Halloween Song

(Sung to the tune of:  "Yankee Doodle Dandy")

I'll carve a fearful pumpkin face
As well as I am able,
And when it's done I'll light it up
And set on a table.
I'll fix it up so passersby
Will see and get the quivers
For Halloween's the time to play
So we have shakes and shivers!

Pumpkin Bells

(Sung to the tune of: "Jingle Bells")

Dashing through the streets
In our costumes bright and gay
To each house we go
Laughing all the way
Halloween is here
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to trick or treat
And sing pumpkin carols tonight.
Oh, pumpkin bells, pumpkin bells
Ringing loud and clear
Oh what fun Great Pumpkin brings
When Halloween is here.

I Had A Little Pumpkin

I had a little pumpkin,
I gave it two big eyes.
I cut a round and tiny nose
and a great big mouth that smiles.
Now I hide behind a bush and
wait until it's dark.
Then when someone comes along
UP I JUMP!
BOO I SHOUT!
What a surprise!"

Three Little Witches

(Sung To: Ten Little Indians)

One Little, two little, three little witches,
Fly over house tops, fly over ditches,
Slide down a moonbeam without any hitches,
Heigh Ho! Halloween' Here!

Stand on your head with a lopsided wiggle,
Tickle your black cats till they giggle,
Swish through the clouds with a higgledy piggle,
Heigh Ho! Halloween's here!

Three Little Witches

Three little witches on Halloween night.
Danced and sang by pumpkin light.
First little witch sang a sweet little song
Dum Ditty, Dum Ditty, Ding, Ding, Dong.
Second little witch did a dance with her broom.
One-two-three. Boom, boom, boom.
Third little witch did a trick with her hat
Tip it, tap it. Out flew a bat.
Three little witches on Halloween night.
Swish with their brooms - out went the light.

Three Little Witches

(Sung to the tune of "Three Little Indians)

One little, two little,
Three little witches,
Fly over haystacks, fly over ditches,
Slide down moon beams without any hitches,
Hey ho Hallowe'en's here!

Horned owl's hooting, it's time to go riding,
Deep in the shadows are black cats hiding,
With gay little goblins, sliding, gliding,
Hey ho Hallowe'en's here!

Stand on your head with a lopsided wiggle,
Tickle your little black cats till they giggle,
Swish through clouds with a higgedy, piggle,
Hey ho Hallowe'en's here!

Halloween Pretending

(Sung to the tune of: "Clementine")

Halloween is such a fun time.
It's not scary, not for me.
I pretend I'm someone different.
It's as fun as fun can be.

A Special Costume

(Sung to tune of: "The Oscar Mayer Theme Song")

Oh, I like to dress up
In a special costume,
Then parade around
For everyone to see
For when I dress up
In a special costume,
I can be whatever
I want to be.

Witch, Witch

Witch,  witch, where do you fly?
Under the clouds and over the sky.

Witch, witch, what do you eat?
Little black apples from Hurricane Street.

Witch, witch, what do you drink?
Vinegar and good red ink.

Witch, witch, where do you sleep?
Up in the clouds where the pillows are cheap.

The Witch

There once was a witch of Willoughby Wood,
And a weird wild witch was she;
With her hair that was snarled,
And hands that were gnarled,
And a rickety, kickety knee.
She could jump they say
To the moon and back,
But this I never did see.

Owl

An owl sat watching in a tree,
Just as wise as he could be,
Watching tricksters from door to door run,
Trick or treating and having fun.
After he had watched the whole scene,
He said, "Whoo, it's Owl-o-ween!"

Witches Come On Halloween

Witches come on Halloween,
Heh-heh, Heh-heh
Watch out now or you might scream,
Heh, heh, heh, heh, heh
Pumpkins shining bright,
With their candlelight
Ghosts and goblins coming too,
Watching out for you - BOO!

Spin, Spin, Little Spider

(Sung to the tune of: "Ten Little Indians")

Spin, spin, little spider,
Spin, spin, wider, wider.
Spin, spin, little spider,
Early in the morning.

Dance, dance, little spider,
Dance, Dance, Dance out wider.
Dance, dance, little spider,
Early in the morning.

(repeat second verse using "jump, crawl, run")

Halloween is Coming Soon

(Sung to the tune of: "London Bridge")

Halloween is coming soon, coming soon, coming soon,
Halloween is coming soon,
Oh, what fun!

Black cats sitting on a fence, on a fence, on a fence,
Black cats sitting on a fence,
Meow! Meow! Meow!

Owl's a-hooting in the trees, in the trees, in the trees,
Owl's a-hooting in the trees,
Whoo! Whoo! Whoo!

Witches flying on their brooms, on their brooms, on their brooms,
Witches flying on their brooms,
Eee! Eee! Eee!

Jack o'lanterns grin at you, grin at you, grin at you,
Jack o'lanterns grin at you,
Oh! Oh! Oh!

Halloween is coming soon, coming soon, coming soon,
Halloween is coming soon,
Oh, what fun!

What Witches Do

The witches don their pointed hats,
The witches croak and croon,
The witches ride their broomsticks,
Away beyond the moon.

The witches don their flowing cloaks,
The witches stir their brew.
The witches chant their magic spells,
All the dark hours through.

The witches stroke their big black cats,
They comb their locks of gray,
Yet when the first faint daylight comes.
The witches hide away.

Skin and Bones

There was an old woman all skin and bones,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
SHe lived down by the old graveyard,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
One night she thought she'd take a walk,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
She walked down by the old graveyard,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
She say the bones a-lying around,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
She went to the closet to get a broom,
Oo-oo-oo-oo.
She opened the door and -------
BOO!!!

Hallowe'en Sounds

This is the way the witches fly, witches fly, witches fly,
This is the way the witches fly,
Swish, swish, swish.

This is the way the ghosts go by, ghosts go by, ghosts go by,
This is the way the ghosts go by,
Oooh, oooh , oooh.

This is the way the black cats howl, black cats howl, black cats howl,
This is the way the black cats howl,
Meow! Meow! Meow!

This is the way the pumpkins laugh, pumpkins laugh, pumpkins laugh,
This is the way the pumpkins laugh,
Hee! Hee! Hee!

This the way the night owls cry, night owls cry, night owls cry,
This is the way the night owls cry,
Hoo, hoo, hoo.

There Was an Old Witch

There was an old witch
Belive it if you can,
She tapped on the windows
And she ran, ran, ran.
she ran helter skelter with her toes in the air,
Cornstalks flying from the old witches' hair.

Swish goes the broomstick, meow goes the cat,
Plop goes the hop-toad sitting on her hat.
"Whee,"chuckled I, "What fun, what fun!"
Hallowe'en night when the witches run!

Hallowe'en Warning

(Sung to the tune of: "On Top of Old Smoky")

On Hallowe'en evening, one night in the year,
When ancient graves open, all the ghosts then appear.
We flit through the shadows, we moan and we groan,
We poounce on the mortal, straying too far from home.
So humans be wary, stay safely within
Let a Hallowe'en ghost, scares you out of your skin!

Counting Little Monsters

One little monster went out to play
in a haunted house one day.
He had so much spooky fun,
that he asked another friend
to come.

Two little monsters went out to play
in a haunted house one day.
They had so much spooky fun,
that they asked another friend
to come.

Three little monsters went out to play
in a haunted house one day.
They had so much spooky fun,
that they asked another friend
to come.

(Continue song for as many children you have in your class.  Designate each
child to be a monster and have them join in the middle of the circle with all the other
monsters when you point to them... as you and the children sing the above song.)
