Parts of a Tree

Materials Needed:
Brown and Green felt
Various colors of felt scraps,
Flannel board;
Pair of Scissors

Preparation:
Cut out a brown felt tree shape that includes roots, a tree trunk and branches.
  Cut leaf shapes out of green felt.  Cut several different kinds of fruit and nut
 shapes, such as apples, oranges, walnuts, and almonds out of felt scraps.
  Place the tree shape on a flannel board.  Point out the different parts of the
 tree.  Then show the children the felt shapes.  Talk about the different
 kinds of fruits and nuts that grow on trees.  Then let the children take
 turns putting the leaf, fruit and nut shapes on the felt tree.

Flannel Board Tree Fun

Make a large felt tree and 3 different sizes of apples, leaves, birds, nests,
 & pinecones.  Match the ones that go together. Put each category
 in order by size. Mix & match the pieces & tell stories using the
 pieces for props. Then have the child tell stories. Pass them out
 and play using positional words such as 'Eric put the bird 'under'
the tree. Suzie hang your leaf 'high' in the tree. Count
 them and/or match groups with felt numbers.
